detailed information

nature and properties
BORNIT® Sheet Metal Adhesive is a permanently flexible adhesive and sealant for bonding window skills and wall coverings simple and easy.
By full-field rich bonding there are no voids. Furthermore, an additional sound-absorbing effect is achieved by the rain drumming noises.

Applications
BORNIT® Sheet Metal Adhesive is used for bonding and sealing of metal profiles and metal sheets, eg titanium zinc, copper, aluminium, stainless steel and plump on other building materials.

Your benefits
• economically and cost reducing because less equipment, material and labor effort
• ready for processing
• cold processing

Surface

The surface may consist of concrete, masonry, natural or artificial stone, fibre cement, slate and or resin bonded chipboard. Important: Surface needs to be firm, dry, clean and with no irregularities. On a clean and non-porous or sanded surface you need no primer. Sandy surfaces, such as old cement screeds need to be treated with BORNIT® Bitumen Primer. For surfaces made of lime sandstone you also need BORNIT® Bitumen Primer. Loose and crumbling plaster and levelling should be replaced. In the case of hollow bricks take care of a full-scale edition trough appropriate measures. Even with alkyd, polyester or acrylic resin coated sheets can be bonded with BORNIT® Sheet Metal Adhesive. For all other  plastic coated sheets, please check the compatibility of the solvent in the BORNIT®-Sheet adhesive before using. In case of wood as base, make sure that only seasoned, dry wood is used to avoid cross-section changes, which may lead to an uneven adhesive base.

By bonding metal to metal with BORNIT® Sheet Metal Adhesive, it is to be noted that an additional mechanical fixation is performed. BORNIT® Sheet Metal Adhesive needs to be applied all-over and the consumption may not exceed 1.5 kg / m². The installation instructions must be considered very carefully in this context.

Not suitable surface for metal-panel with BORNIT® Sheet Metal Adhesive:
• roof sheeting, because the outer layers of the roofing membrane are dissolved by the solvent and bitumen could be flown away. This also applies to other bituminous surfaces.
• Plastic films, such as those used in the roof area, because of a general incompatibility between films and bituminous materials containing solvents, which could damage the film.
• Non-mineral insulating materials such as polystyrene, because solvents could damage them.

Mineral oils and organic solvent must be kept away. Non-bituminous sealants are incompatible to BORIT®-Sheet adhesive, such as silicone-, butyl-, acrylic- and polyurethane sealants. These surfaces are unsuitable for bonding. Due to a possible bad smell BORNIT®-Sheet adhesive is not suitable for use indoors.

Processing
Process BORNIT® Sheet Metal Adhesive is all over with a grooved trowel in one direction, so when laying the sheets the air could escape easily.. Only in this way a full glue-down without air inclusions is achieved. (see illustrations)

Important: When applying BORNIT® Sheet Metal Adhesive on both parts bonded parts ensure that each of the grooves run in the same direction. When gluing surfaces are widther than the 30 cm applie BORNIT® Sheet Metal Adhesive on both sides (intended amount distributed evenly on both sides!)  Gluing surfaces of more than 30 cm width BORNIT® Sheet Metal Adhesive have to be applied on both sides (Evenly distribute the intended amount on both sides!)
BORNIT® Sheet Metal Adhesive must be stirred before use.

Processing temperature:
The processing temperature of BORNIT® Sheet Metal Adhesive shouldn’t be below +5°C or above +30°C. Too cold stored material achieves slowly the required processing temperature. Fall outside temperatures, especially at night below +5°C, is a storage in areas with higher temperatures necessary. Too cold BORNIT® Sheet Metal Adhesive bucket could be heated in water. The surfaces must also have temperature above +5°C and not exceed +50°C. At temperatures lower than +5°C, the danger of frost on metal surfaces prevents good adhesion.

Laying on horizontal surfaces:

In wall, parapet or balustrade covers from several parts it is necessary to glue a lower sheet of 10 cm wide under the metal sheet joints to ensure the water flow. For continuous metal profiles of more than 6 m in length, for temperature-induced expansion create an expansion compensation, without causing leaks.. The metal sheet spacing for expansion compensation should be chosen depending on the processing temperature and the expansion coefficient of the metal.  This prevents that the sheets push up each other. Even with a low gradient a mechanical fixing is necessary.

Adhesice range:
The bonding parts can be assembled immediately after the application of BORNIT® Sheet Metal Adhesive. But it must be done within 60 minutes after application.

Pressing:
The assembly of the components must be done with pressure. With small dimensions it is enough to press strong with the hand. Where it is possible, the slow and even pressure with the feet is sufficient.

Consumption
At a flat absorbent surface the consumption is 2 kg/m². It should not be applied too much. Otherwise in summer temperatures there is a danger that not dried material slip.

Storage
In closed packaging at least 6 months, Frost resistant!

Health-, work- and fire protection
Keep away from children.
Don’t eat, drink or smoke during working.
Use only in well ventilated areas, take care of the current version TRGS.
Don’t use in closed rooms!

Disposal
Only empty containers may be disposed of. Product waste is disposed of according to guideline no. 080409* (glues and insulation materials, which contain organic solvents or other dangerous products).
