BORNIT® Cold Sealing Compound
2-component, permanently elastic polysulfide based jointing material, can be poured-on, self-leveling, cold workable, for sealing horizontal joints in buildings, civil engineering and  roadway construction, for expansion joints up to 35% of the joint width, suitable for concrete and asphalt joints. Priming is required, depending on conditions, either with BORNIT® Concrete Primer or BORNIT® Asphalt Primer. Tested in  compliance with DIN EN 14188-2.

Areas of application
BORNIT® Cold Sealing Compound is used for sealing horizontal joints in concrete traffic areas and cut asphalt surfaces.
BORNIT® Cold Sealing Compound reliably seals joints against the penetration of water pollutants into the ground. It is particularly suitable for sealing joints in road, bridge and tunnel construction.
BORNIT® Cold Sealing Compound is suitable for sealing floor or ground-level joints between concrete elements as well as concrete components and asphalt surfaces subject to mechanical stresses (vehicle and pedestrian traffic), chemical stresses from de-icing salts and temperature-dependent movements of the components. Upon use in concrete surfaces, BORNIT® Cold Sealing Compound can also be subjected to chemical stresses from fuels. In connection with BORNIT® Concrete or Asphalt Primer, resp., as adhesive primer and with respective structural joint design, horizontal joints of most different construction materials in civil engineering and road construction can be permanently sealed.
BORNIT® Cold Sealing Compound (self-levelling) can be used up to an inclination of the joints of max. 3 %. Joints with a higher inclination or vertical joints should be sealed with the stable BORNIT® Cold Joint Sealant. The joint sealant must not be used for joints, which are permanently under the surface of liquids (e.g. in swimming pools, clarification tanks) or are exposed to strongly oxidising acids and bases, as well as for joints in facilities for storing, filling and transhipping of water pollutants (called LAU plants).

Type and properties
BORNIT® Cold Sealing Compound is an elastic two-component, polysulphide-based joint sealant for joints with an expansibility of up to 35 % of the joint width.
It is pourable and self-levelling. In the hardened state, BORNIT® Cold Sealing Compound results in elastic joint sealing with very good resistance to weather impacts and ageing and high mechanical strength.
BORNIT® Cold Sealing Compound complies with DIN EN 14188-2.

Substrate
The joint flanks must be clean, dry, firm, and free of grease and dust. Asphalt flanks must be freshly cut. The joint widths must be matched to the expected movement.

Processing
The bonding surfaces of the joints to be sealed must be cleaned from dirt, dust, greases, oils, bitumen, loose particles, mortar residues and the like. In order to provide the correct depth and to avoid adhesion on three surfaces, the joints are clamped and backfilled with foamed PE-based round material (closed-cell round PE profile) (BORNIT® Round Cord). Should this not be possible, the joint base must be covered with a separating material (PE sheet, silicone paper or the like). The primers must be applied to dry substrate and must flash off prior to application of the sealant.

In concrete joints,
the fusion faces must be primed with BORNIT® Concrete Primer. The components A and B are thoroughly mixed and the primer is evenly applied with a brush. Following a flash-off time of 30 min to 2 hours (depending on the temperature), the sealant can be applied. BORNIT® Concrete Primer should not have completely dried off. If more than 24 hours should have passed, the primer layer must be roughened and new primer applied.

In asphalt joints,
the fusion faces must be primed with BORNIT® Asphalt Primer.nThe asphalt joints must be freshly cut, since otherwise adhesion problems occur. The components A and B are thoroughly mixed and the primer is evenly applied with a brush. Following a flash-off time of 2 to 6 hours (component temperature > +25 °C approx. 2 hours, < +10 °C approx. 6 hours), the sealant can be applied. The asphalt primer should have dried off as far as possible. It must be observed that no moisture film has formed on the primer surface due to undercutting of the dew point.
BORNIT® Cold Sealing Compound is packaged separately in various containers. The B component is added to the A component and mixed using a paddle mixer until there are no more colour streaks. In order to avoid the formation of bubbles, it must be observed that no air is mixed into the product.
The joint sealant is inserted into the joint with suitable tools (e.g. manual or compressed-air guns). It is self-levelling. Possibly ascending air bubbles must be removed within the processing time by slight smoothing the surface with a soft flat brush or smoothing stick. The temperature of the sealant prior to mixing should be min. +10 °C. The component temperature must not be below +5 °C and not above +40 °C.
Until reaching the full load-bearing capacity, a thorough hardening time of at least 48 hours at +20 °C of ground and material temperature must be complied with.

Disposal
Only recycle completely empty containers. Material residues of component A + B can be disposed of according to AVV-ASN: 080409 * (adhesive and sealing compound residues containing organic solvents or other hazardous substances).
